Symptoms

This article provides instructions for resolving an issue in Windows 11 where documents become stuck in the print queue, preventing the printer from processing new print jobs. The resolution involves clearing the print queue and restarting the Windows Print Spooler service.

Signature

- User sends a document to the printer, but nothing prints.
- Documents remain in the print queue with a Pending, Printing, or Error status.
- Canceling a print job does not remove it from the queue.
- Additional print jobs accumulate without printing.
- The printer appears online but does not respond to print requests.

Root Cause

A corrupted or stalled print job caused the Windows 11 Print Spooler service to stop processing print requests. As a result, documents remained stuck in the print queue, preventing additional documents from printing.

Solution

1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
2. Locate the Print Spooler service.
3. Right-click Print Spooler and select Stop.
4. Open File Explorer and navigate to:

C:WindowsSystem32spoolPRINTERS

5. Delete all files inside the PRINTERS folder. Administrator permission may be required.
6. Return to Services.
7. Right-click Print Spooler and select Start.
8. Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
9. Select the affected printer and print a test page.
10. Verify the document prints successfully and the print queue is clear.

Resolution: Clearing the corrupted print jobs and restarting the Print Spooler service restored normal printing functionality.

Note: This procedure removes all pending print jobs from the workstation. Confirm they can be discarded before proceeding.

Additional Information

The Windows Print Spooler service manages print jobs submitted to installed printers. A corrupted or stalled print job can prevent subsequent documents from printing.

Restarting the Print Spooler service and clearing its temporary queue files can resolve this issue without reinstalling the printer.

Important: Clearing the spooler directory deletes pending print jobs for all printers managed by the affected workstation. Confirm that pending jobs can be discarded before proceeding.
